Dog Handler

The K9Edge, the North Shore’s PREMIER Daycare, Boarding and Training Center, The K9Edge is hiring energetic and skilled Dog Handlers to work in our busy daycare, boarding and training center.

In this position, you will develop trusted relationships with our dogs, and become an essential and welcoming part of their daily lives. You will learn each dog's unique behaviors, preferences, and stress triggers to ensure their well-being.

Part-time and full-time positions. Compensation based on experience.

Experience:

• MINIMUM of 1 year of dog handling experience in a dog daycare and kennel setting.
  
• Proven experience working as a dog handler.
  
• References are required.
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Handle dogs of different breeds and sizes
  
• Leash walk dogs from and to the lobby, kennels, play and training areas
  
• Play with and exercise dogs
  
• Supervise solo and group play
  
• Observe and assess behavioral patterns and formulate personalized care
  
• Identify and mitigate stress triggers
  
• Modify problematic behaviors utilizing various dog-handling techniques and skills
  
• Clean and sanitize sleep, play, training areas and gear
  
• Feed, water and administer medications per instructions
  
• Promptly report incidents, accidents, or medical issues to management
  
• Document feeding, elimination, medical needs, behavioral issues, and progress
  

Requirements:

• A love for dogs
  
• The ability to handle different breeds and sizes of dogs
  
• Strong knowledge of dog body language and group management
  
• Work with minimal supervision
  
• Have an observant, alert, and patient disposition
  
• Quick and calm resolution in difficult situations
• Stand and walk for extended periods, lift 50 lbs. bend, stoop, kneel and crouch and push/pull equipment
  
• Work in an environment with exposure to disinfectant/sanitation solutions, animal dander and secretions
  
• Work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and some holidays. We rotate weekends and holidays as much as possible
  
• Must be dependable and reliable. If you are late for shifts, call out last-minute and/or frequently, this job is not for you
  
• A valid driver's license and/or reliable transportation and live locally
  
• High school diploma or equivalent
